Two upsets in squash

Two seeds in the men’s open grade were beaten in the second round of the Christchurch closed squash tournament today.

The No. 2 seed, Barry McNeil (Old Boys) was beaten by Wigram’s Lyn Sparks in four games.

The third seed, New Zealand colts reserve Lawrence Skurr (Sumner), struck a tough five-setter against Burnside’s Graeme Foulds. Skurr lost 9-6, 9-3, 7-9, 0-9, 9-1.

The top seed, Viv Hargreaves (Old Boys) beat Christchurch’s Mike Grant, 5-9, 1-9, 9-7, 9-1, 9-4.

The Canterbury junior, Rod Hayes (Christchurch), who is seeded fourth, beat John Redpath (HSOB), 9-5, 9-1, 9-3.
