Squash Tour Teams

New Zealand Squash Rackets teams to make overseas tours were named at the weekend.

They were: Women to visit South Africa in August: Miss R Dvis (Henderson); Mrs P Buckingham, Miss R Garvye (Remuera); Mrs J Hawkes (Khandallah); Mrs C McIntyre (Rotorua) is the non-travelling reserve.

Juniors to visit Melbourne in August for the Australian junior inter-state and individual championships: Girls: R Blackwood, A Owen (Auckland), K Leabourn (Bay of Plenty); J Stanton (Central Districts); Non -travelling reserve J Milne (Canterbury). Boys: B Barnett (Bay of Plenty), R Espie, R Lust (Wellington), R Hayes (Canterbury); non-Travelling reserve J Devoy (Bay of Plenty).

At New Plymouth the Wellington junior men’s team won the Coca Cola national junior teams championships for the second year in succession. It beat Canterbury 3-1 in the final. Scores: (wellington names first) R Espie beat R Hayes 9-6 5-9 8-10 9-4 9-0; R Lust beat P McFadzien 10-8 9-1 9-1; J Romanos lost to B Matthews 10-9 6-9 4-9 8-10; H Griffin beat M Thompson 9-2 9-0 9-7.
